Acupuncture Treatment of the Month | Liver
Spring is the time of renewal. In Chinese medicine it is the time of the Liver. A time for expansion, movement, detoxing, and goal setting. Wood is the element of the Liver. This is the time we feel our roots deep in the soil and growing toward the sun. It is the time to let go of what does not serve us and allow ourselves to move freely through life.
When the Liver energy is imbalanced it can be described as stagnant or stuck. This means the energy is not smoothly moving through the body. The Liver’s job is to store the blood. When it is deficient in blood, we become under nourished. There is not enough to go around, therefore we become dry, tight, and weak.
Many physical and emotional symptoms of these imbalances include: headaches, teeth grinding, eye issues, muscle and joint pain, hip pain, painful pms, fibroids, irritability, anger, impatience, and thyroid issues. People tend to wake up between 1 & 3am, feeling restless, and can have an overall feeling of being stuck in life.
Self care includes getting Acupuncture, eating right and moving your body. Acupuncture point, Liver 3, The Great Rushing, moves stuck Liver energy. Eating green and pungent foods like chamomile, mint, spring onions, and ginger promotes the movement of Liver qi, or energy. Eating cruciferous veggies increases liver enzymes. Drinking plenty of water flushes the body of toxins. Lastly, moving your body moves your energy. Going for a walk, practicing yoga, or hitting the gym, will help immensely.
